Open Door Wooden Framed Poster
Open Door is a design very close to my heart as it features not only my illustration but also a poem of mine about hope and togetherness.
I am an immigrant. I was lucky enough to become an immigrant by choice, not chased away from my home by war or poverty. And I am lucky enough to be white and to speak English with only a slight accent. My nationality invites smiles and positive, romantic stereotypes. So many immigrants are far less lucky. Still, someone once shouted at me, in a public space, while I was carrying my baby in a sling on my chest, to "go back where you come from!" Let me tell you, it's a brutal experience, even when it is rare.
We need to do better as a society, and that's what I'm hoping this piece inspires.
(I didn't expect to get that deep in this description but I guess, sometimes, things need to be said the way they are.)
This comes as a poster only but here, I'm offering it with a FSC-certified wooden frame as well! Please be aware that you'd have to assemble the frame yourself. But don’t worry! It's a snap to put them together - no expertise is required, and the hanging hardware is included.
