I am an immigrant. Some would call me an expat but that's a luxury given to me by the colour of my skin. I moved from my original country to live in an other - that's the definition of an immigrant. I was lucky enough to do it by choice, and to "pass" for British. I was once told in a pub: "Babe, you're the last true English rose!"
 
But on a very different day, with my few months old baby in a sling, I was also told to "Go back from where you come from!!" For me, it is a terribly painful yet rare occurence. For others, it is at least a daily experience. We need to do better as a society.
 
This is what I hope this piece is going to inspire.
